Community Involvement

A primary focus of the Jefferson Township Chamber, we focus heavily on giving back to our community in ways that our both meaningful and impactful. We work closely with other nonprofit and community organizations in the Township, including the Jefferson Arts Committee, the Jefferson Township Police and Fire Departments, the JTeam Drug Awareness Group, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, and the Department for Persons with Disabilities, and are committed to supporting and uplifting our community’s children and families.

The Chamber is a highly active and engaged community partner, and each year, we look for new ways to get involved. Here are a few examples of our participation in local events and initiatives.

  • Doris Roberts Business Scholarship Program: In keeping with our commitment to support our local youth, the JTCC provides one local student with a college scholarship of $1000 each year. The scholarship is awarded based on academic performance and participation in extra-curricular and community-focused activities and its recipient is chosen by the Chamber’s Board of Directors. Each year, the Doris Roberts scholarship is given to one Jefferson Township High School student who plans to pursue a higher education in business.
  • Holiday Food Drive: As in most communities, there are food-insecure children and families right here in Jefferson Township. To ease the strain this puts on families and help make their holidays a little brighter, we support our local food pantry. Each year, our members come together to donate from their own pockets, delivering much-needed groceries to Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Lake Hopatcong for distribution to needy residents right here in our own community.
  • JTHS College Fair: In an effort to help students in their college or university searches, each year we provide our local high school with tote bags for the junior and senior classes. Each Jefferson Township High School student receives a sturdy, Chamber-branded bag, which they can use to collect and carry materials and applications from schools during the night of the JTHS College Fair.
  • Operation Camp Jefferson: While we aren’t currently able to fulfill this need every year, we raise funds whenever possible to support this summer camp initiative, which provides financial support for children whose families cannot afford the cost of summer camp. Children who receive scholarships through the program attend Camp Jefferson, a township-run day camp at a sprawling, picturesque 94-acre facility in Lake Hopatcong.

In addition to these Chamber-run programs, we also sponsor and participate in community events hosted by other groups, such as the annual Jefferson Township Day community-wide celebration. In addition, we encourage our local Chamber members to suggest new charitable initiatives, as we are deeply committed to continuously extending the reach of our community support.
