It’s been several years since the Jefferson Township Recreation Department last held a Winterfest event. However, as Mother Nature and Jack Frost have suddenly become energized this winter hurling such cold temperatures and a tremendous amount of snow, the Jefferson Township Recreation Department is partnering with the Jefferson Township Chamber of Commerce to host Winterfest 2016 at Camp Jefferson, 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ on Saturday, February 13 from 2 to 8 pm.
Plans are for a day filled with fun outside activities for all age groups including a roaring bonfire, sledding, snow tubing, and ice skating on the lake (activities will, however, depend on weather conditions, and refreshments in the Community Lodge. Be sure to visit the BD&W’s model train display in the Railroad Cabin, the Camp Jefferson Movie Theater will be open all day, and Jefferson Highlights Community TV will be on hand distributing information for its summer concert series to be held in the Amphitheater. All activities are absolutely free although there will be a nominal fee for refreshments which will include hot cocoa, hot dogs, and snacks.
Start thinking of some ideas as there will be a snow sculpture contest between 12 noon and 2 pm, but pre-registration is required with the $5 registration fee due upon arrival at the event. The registration form is available at www.jeffersontownship.net through the Forms Center link in the Recreation Department section (on the back of the flyer).
So, gather up your family and friends along with your own ice skates, sleds, and snow tubes and celebrate winter fun at Camp Jefferson. Please be advised that there will be absolutely no snowboarding or skiing permitted, and a parent/guardian must accompany children under 14 years of age.
In an attempt to assist in stocking the township’s food pantry for the needy, those attending Winterfest are asked to bring a non-perishable food item and/or paper products.
So, get rid of those winter blues on Saturday, February 13 in the great outdoors! In the event of very inclement weather, the Winterfest will be rescheduled for Saturday, February 20. For further information, please contact the Jefferson Township Recreation Department at 973-663-8404 for updates
